Over Quel’Thalas, the wind was singing
When I stood watch upon the wall
I was the guardian of the North
Until the Lich King came to call
I saw the Scourge beyond the borders
I heard the footsteps of the dead
And I swore, with my final arrow
To guard the land where I was bred
Arthas came — and the sun grew darker
Quel’Thalas burned beneath his stride
I raised my bow against the darkness
But death was stronger than my pride
He tore my soul away from my body
Left me no will, no words to speak
I became a banshee among the dead
A slave to blades of frozen grief
But when the ice of his command was breaking
I tore apart the unseen chain
And swore that I would hunt the Lich King
Till every spark of wrath had waned
From lands of death, I rose again
Where sunlight never warms the grave
I will never be a slave again —
I choose the path I walk today!
I am Sylvanas Windrunner!
Risen from ashes, death and fire!
Queen of the Forsaken, their mother
Carrying my name through the dark and higher!
The Horde took us beneath its banners
When all of Azeroth cursed our name
I became Warchief, I led them onward —
But power could never erase the past!
Beneath Lordaeron, deep underground
We built a home beneath the stone
The Forsaken followed their Queen
A Queen who never needed a throne
We forged our pact with the Horde together
And stood beside them in the fight
For Orgrimmar, for all our lands
For the right to choose our own lives
But in every battle of my past
I heard a voice inside of me
“You have become just like the ones
You once swore that you’d destroy.”
I am Sylvanas Windrunner!
Risen from ashes, death and fire!
Queen of the Forsaken, their mother
Carrying my name through the dark and higher!
The Horde took us beneath its banners
When all of Azeroth cursed our name
I became Warchief, I led them onward —
But power could never erase the past!
And flames rose high into the heavens
When Teldrassil was turned to flame
The lands of the kaldorei were screaming
While ash was carried by the rain
I thought that this was our victory
I thought that fear would bring us peace
But even the Horde turned away
When I opened the gates to my darkness
Saurfang stood and called me out
In Orgrimmar, we faced the truth
He fought for honor in the battle
While I sought only its final end
And beneath the walls of the great city
I heard the Horde cry out my name
“YOU ARE NO LONGER WARCHIEF!”
I smiled
And broke the Horde’s great banner
I do not belong to the Horde
I do not belong to the Alliance
I do not belong among the dead
And sometimes — not even to myself
I thought that death itself was power
That fear was what made people live
But if victory demands your soul
Then what is left for you to give?
What remains of the Sylvanas
Who once stood beneath the sun
With her bow upon the walls
Of Quel’Thalas — her home?
I challenged death itself to face me!
And beyond the world I found
Not a throne, not power, not freedom —
But another prison underground
The gates of the Shadowlands
Opened wide above the living world
And then I saw the final truth
Even death is not the end
For someone born like me
I am Sylvanas Windrunner!
I have fallen time and time again!
From Quel’Thalas to Lordaeron
From the Horde to the edge of the end!
I am no Queen of the Forsaken!
No Warchief, no weapon of the night!
I remember the arrow, I remember the sunlight
I remember who we were before the fight!
Let Azeroth pass its judgment
Let the past demand its price
I will never be a slave again
To death — or to my own dark side!
Over Quel’Thalas, the wind still sings
A forgotten song above the trees
And somewhere deep within its whisper
I hear the woman I once used to be
Sylvanas Windrunner
Not a queen
Not a banshee
Just a soul
Still searching
For the road back home
